Panama hat sein bekanntestes Programm 2021 umgebaut. Der frühere Weg über eine einfache Firmengründung existiert nicht mehr, seitdem gibt es drei klar definierte Varianten.

Wer die Immobilie vor Erhalt der permanenten Residenz verkauft, riskiert den Verlust des Status, sofern nicht ein gleichwertiges Objekt nachgekauft wird (Quelle 1).
Auch hier hat sich das Verfahren geändert. Aus einem Antrag sind zwei geworden, das solltest du bei der Zeitplanung berücksichtigen.
Zuerst erhältst du eine provisorische Residenz für zwei Jahre. Danach stellst du einen eigenen Antrag auf die permanente Residenz. Nach fünf Jahren permanenter Residenz kannst du die Einbürgerung und damit den panamaischen Pass beantragen (Quelle 1).
Panama ist bei Familienangehörigen großzügiger als die meisten Programme.
Alle Angehörigen erhalten denselben Status wie der Hauptantragsteller.
Panama besteuert nur Einkommen, das aus panamaischer Quelle stammt. Einkünfte aus dem Ausland bleiben unbesteuert, unabhängig davon, ob sie nach Panama überwiesen werden.
Wichtig ist die Abgrenzung zur Steuerresidenz: Eine Aufenthaltsgenehmigung macht dich noch nicht automatisch zum Steuerresidenten. Und für deine deutsche, österreichische oder schweizerische Steuerpflicht zählt, ob du den Wohnsitz dort tatsächlich aufgibst. Wer die Wohnung in Deutschland behält, bleibt dort unbeschränkt steuerpflichtig, egal welchen Aufenthaltstitel er in Panama besitzt.
